The back story on Beneteau Oceanis 40 (De Life)
The original owners bought the boat and placed it in the CYOA charter fleet untill it became available for sale to a captain and his partner. They continued to use the boat as there own charter boat untill the hurricanes Irma and Maria where it took extensive damage leaving a stanchion about amidship embed into the hole creating a stress crack about 3 ft long a foot under the waterline and about 4 ft from the stanchion also delaminating the inner grid from the outer grid along the entire length of the back head also pushing the rudder into the bottom of the boat as well as tearing the rudder shelf from the back wall and splitting the original mast in 3 pices. Also upon storage the exhaust water was not drained which allowed the number one and two pistons to cease. When the boat fell over insurance decided to pay the owners and and sell the boat.
I lost my boat a small 37 ft Irwin in the storms so I acquired Beneteau Oceanis 40 (De Life) then the insurance while working for the local fiberglass company Timco that was contracted to fix the CYOA charterer boats that where in the yard. Delife sat on the hard for 8 months while I did the fiberglass work with the help of Timco boat works.
The engine was rebuilt a year after the boat was splashed in the water while the engine was being professionaly rebuilt I added the new mast and rigging adding a boom kicker and upgrading wire from 6mm to 10mm. I used the boat about a dozen times under engine power it has a 3 bladed self folding speed prop and is powered by a Yannmar 3 cylinder diesel engine.
