49 Bavaria Sailing Yacht
Bavaria 49 Second Wind – 2003
“Second Wind” is a 2003 Bavaria 49 built in Giebelstadt, Bavaria, Germany. The yacht has the popular three‑cabin / three‑head “owner’s” layout and features a comfortable saloon with a settee and dining table. Bavaria’s renowned build quality is evident in her solid fiberglass hull and balanced fin‑and‑skeg rudder; she has a length overall of roughly 49 ft 7 in with a 14 ft 6 in beam and 6 ft 9 in draft. A Volvo Penta TMD 22 diesel engine (approx. 76.9 hp) provides economical auxiliary power, and the yacht carries about 180 US gal of diesel and 121 US gal of fresh water in two tanks each.
The yacht is a fractional‑rig sloop with a Selden anodized‑aluminum mast and Furlex headsail furler. She has a furling mainsail and furling genoa; both sails were replaced recently, and the boat is reported to have a new tender. Deck hardware includes Harken self‑tailing winches, a Lofrans Tigress windlass and ground tackle comprising Delta, Barnacle and Danforth anchors. Twin helm stations and a teak‑soled cockpit are protected by a bimini and spray‑dodger; a walk‑through transom with swim ladder makes boarding easy.
Inside, the layout offers three private cabins (two aft and one forward) plus three heads with showers. The galley is fully equipped with a propane oven, a Frigoboat refrigerator and a Coolmatic fridge/freezer. A large chart table houses navigation equipment, and the saloon includes a 32‑inch Samsung TV and a Sony Blu‑ray player. The electrical system features three house batteries, an engine‑start battery, a 125‑amp Outback charger/inverter, and an 80‑amp alternator. Renewable power is provided by a 315‑W LG solar panel plus two 130‑W Kyocera panels feeding Victron MPPT charge controllers. Comfort systems include a 16 000 BTU Cruisair air‑conditioning unit in the saloon.
Navigation electronics consist of a Raymarine C‑70 color chart‑plotter at the helm, a Raymarine ST‑6001 autopilot, Raymarine ST‑60 wind and tri‑data instruments, and a Horizon VHF. Safety gear includes multiple lifejackets, a Viking eight‑person life raft (needs servicing), EPIRB and fire‑extinguishing systems. The vessel also has a bow thruster for easy docking and a three‑bladed folding propeller.
“Second Wind” has been used primarily for recreational cruising and is stored on a private mooring in Vessup Bay, St Thomas. She is offered through Harbor Shoppers with a new tender, newer sails and numerous upgrades, making her an attractive option for live‑aboard cruising or extended Caribbean passages. Please note that the engine needs a belt, dodger glass changed out, and woken up for the next owner.
